Declaring solidarity with the Histadruth in Palestine, the National Labor Committee for Jewish Workers in Palestine, closing its three-day twelfth annual convention at the Manhattan Opera House, today adopted a $500,000 quota for the coming year to support labor projects in the Holy Land.
Resolutions were adopted demanding that no restrictions be placed on immigration and thanking American and British labor for supporting the Palestine workers in the present crisis.
The convention closed with a dinner at the Central Plaza tonight, at which Joseph Baratz, representative of the Histadruth, was principal speaker. Hillel Rogoff of the Jewish Daily Forward and Isidore Nagler of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union were among the other speakers. Abraham Cahan, editor of the Forward, spoke at the afternoon session.
Yesterday, Mayor LaGuardia praised the aid to organized labor in Palestine. “In helping the working people of Palestine, you are helping Palestine itself,” he said, “because the welfare of the country is identical with the welfare of the body of workers.” He added the labor is most easily exploited in a young community.
Other speakers at yesterday’s session were Dr. Stephen S. Wise, who said, “No one could have one more for us in our hour of need than has been done by the president of the United States,” Mr. Baratz and David Pinski.
