Rabbi of Rome Visits Rhodes Rabbinical Seminary

Dr. David Prato, chief rabbi of Rome, recently visited the Rabbinical Seminary on the Island of Rhodes, established in 1927 to train rabbis and religious teachers for Jewish communities in the Eastern Mediterranean, It now has 20 scholars from Egypt, Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece.

Rabbi Prato was the guest of the Italian governor Mario Lago. He was accompanied on his visit to the island by Italian Education Minister De Vecchi, who is slated to succeed Lago as governor. He addressed the students on religious liberty. Rhodes has a Jewish population of 5,000.
