Joshua Riesenbach, a Jewish colonist of Kfar Saba, was sentenced today to four months’ imprisonment for illegal possession of arms. His father, Zvi Riesenbach, was acquitted of the same charge.
The two were among six Jews arrested recently in a police raid on the settlement after a truck carrying six Arabs had been shot at. Police said they had found rifles and other arms. The other four arrested were released shortly after the raid.
(The raid was protested in the British House of Commons in London on March 3 by Col. Josiah Wedgwood, Laborite, who declared that Arabs were freed on similar charges and asked whether there was “one law for the Arab and one for the Jew.”)
The Jewish quarter of Safed was attacked during the night, Arab terrorists pouring rifle fire into it from three sides. Police and troops guarding the section, it was reported, failed to return the fire. A patrol of British police searched Jewish passersby.
