Relations between the Fascist anti-Semitic Iron Guard and King Carol are “very bad,” it was asserted today by Cornelius Codreanu, Iron Guard leader, in denying allegations that his organization was being secretly subsidized by the King.
In an interview here with a special correspondent of the Paris Soir, Codreanu said his organization was not against national minorities in Rumania, with the single exception of Jews. He voiced sympathy with Chancellor Hitler and Premier Mussolini.
Asked if he intended to eliminate the Jews by pogroms, Codreanu told the correspondent:
“Not by pogroms, but by heavier taxation, Jews are not to be given equal rights. They are not to be admitted to the army. There must be a numerus clausus for Jews in all schools. Jews are not entitled to equal rights, because they have lived in Rumania only 100 years, while we have lived here 2,000 years.”
