Less than five percent of Jewish university students have a good Jewish background when they enter college, Dr. A.L. Sachar, national director of the B’nai B’rith Hillel Foundations reported to the second national conference of Hillel directors at Martinsville, Ohio.
The largest group of Jewish students are indifferent to Judaism upon entering college, Dr. Sachar said, while a smaller group is interested in, but abysmally ignorant of Jewish knowledge. Directors of nine of eleven of the Hillel foundations attended the conference. Alfred M. Cohen, president of B’nai B’rith, presided.
