Australian Premiers Questioned on Measures Against Refugee Physicians

PREMIER BUTLER OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA ANNOUNCED TODAY HE WAS COMMUNICATING WITH THE PREMIERS OF OTHER AUSTRALIAN STATES QUESTIONING THEM ON WHETHER IT WAS NECESSARY TO TAKE MEASURES TO PREVENT AN INFLUX OF REFUGEE PHYSICIANS.

THE ACTION WAS TAKEN AFTER A CONFERENCE OF MEDICAL BOARDS OF VICTORIA, NEW SOUTH WALES, QUEENSLAND, SOUTH AUSTRALIA AND WESTERN AUSTRALIA HAD ADOPTED A RESOLUTION URGING LEGISLATION GIVING THE AUTHORITIES THE POWER TO REFUSE REGISTRATION FOR ALIEN APPLICANTS.
