WITHIN FOUR HOURS AFTER ISSUANCE OF AN ORDER BY COMMERCE MINISTER VALERIUS POP, THE ONLY SYNAGOGUE IN THE TRANSYLVANIAN TOWN OF ALBA-IULIA WAS DEMOLISHED.

ACCORDING TO A REPORT IN THE BUCHAREST DAILY, UNIVERSUL, M. POP PERSONALLY WITNESSED THE DEMOLITION, WHICH WAS CARRIED OUT YESTERDAY BY THREE DETACHMENTS OF MILITARY CONSCRIPTS UNDER SUPERVISION OF THE LOCAL CHIEF OF POLICE. THE SYNAGOGUE WAS ADJACENT TO JEWISH-OWNED BUILDINGS.

“ALBA-IULIA, HOLY TEMPLE OF RUMANIA,” THE NEWSPAPER COMMENTS, “HAS NOT AT THIS HOUR A SINGLE SYNAGOGUE.”

KING CAROL ON THURSDAY IS SCHEDULED TO UNVEIL A MEMORIAL IN THE TOWN TO THREE RUMANIAN NATIONAL HEROES.
