A 24-HOUR CURFEW WAS TODAY CLAMPED DOWN ON A LARGE RURAL AREA OF SAFED, IN NORTHERN PALESTINE, AS POLICE PRESSED AN INTENSIVE SEARCH OF MOUNTAINOUS CAVES THOUGHT TO BE HARBORING ARAB TERRORIST GANGS.

HAJ SULEIMAN TAMIN, MUKHTAR OF JAUNEH, NEAR SAFED, WAS SHOT AND SLIGHTLY WOUNDED YESTERDAY BY UNKNOWN ASSAILANTS BELIEVED TO BE ARAB TERRORISTS. TAMIN HAS BEEN ASSAILED FOR HIS FAVORABLE ATTITUDE TOWARDS JEWS. SEVENTEEN ARABS IN THE VICINITY WERE ARRESTED.
