Disorders, Demonstrations Follow Execution of Arab Terrorist; Stern Measures Threatened

THE PALESTINE GOVERNMENT WARNED THE POPULATION TODAY IT WOULD TAKE THE STRONGEST MEASURES TO SUPPRESS DISORDERS AS BOMB AND GUN ATTACKS, STRIKES AND DEMONSTRATIONS FOLLOWED THE EXECUTION OF DEATH SENTENCE ON SHEIKH FAHRAN ESSADI, AGED ARAB TERRORIST.

THE GOVERNMENT CLOSED FOR AN INDEFINITE PERIOD THE SALAHIA ARAB SECONDARY SCHOOL AT NABLUS BECAUSE ITS STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN THE DEMONSTRATIONS AGAINST ESSADI’S HANGING. AGITATED ARAB CROWDS DEMONSTRATED IN HEBRON. SHOPS WERE CLOSED FOR SEVERAL HOURS IN JENIN AND NABLUS, WHERE DEMONSTRATORS WERE DISPERSED BY THE POLICE AND FORTY ARRESTED.

THE PROTESTS EXTENDED BEYOND PALESTINE’S BORDERS. LARGE DEMONSTRATIONS WERE HELD IN BAGHDAD, IRAQ, WHERE THE DEMONSTRATORS WERE RECEIVED BY PREMIER JAMIL MATFIA. IN DAMASCUS, SYRIA, MINISTER KUATLI RECEIVED DEMONSTRATORS.

A 16-YEAR-OLD JEWISH GIRL AND TWO 12-YEAR-OLD JEWISH BOYS WERE SLIGHTLY WOUNDED WHEN A BOMB HURLED BY AN ARAB EXPLODED LAST EVENING ON KING GEORGE AVENUE, JERUSALEM’S MAIN THOROUGHFARE. THE INJURED ARE HILDA LOWENSTEIN, GARIB LEVY AND NACHMAN ZION. THE BOMB THROWER ESCAPED.

A BOMB AIMED AT A BUS CARRYING BRITISH POLICE TO CAMP ON MOUNT SCOPUS FELL INTO A JEWISH HOUSE AND SLIGHTLY INJURED A WOMEN IN BED. A JEWISH BUS EN ROUTE TO JERUSALEM FROM ATAROTH WAS FIRED ON. BANDS ATTACKED AND FIRED UPON THE KARKUR POLICE STATION AND THE NEW SETTLEMENT OF JUARA NEAR MISHMAR HAEMEK. NO CASUALTIES WERE REPORTED. SPORADIC FIRING OCCURRED ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF HAIFA.

SHEIKH FARHAN WAS PUT TO DEATH AT ACRE PRISON YESTERDAY AT EIGHT A.M. THREE DAYS AFTER A MILITARY COURT AT HAIFA HAD CONVICTED HIM OF CARRYING ARMS IN VIOLATION OF PALESTINE’S EMERGENCY REGULATIONS. REFUSING TO SPEAK, HE DIED ON THE GALLOWS AFTER EFFORTS TO WIN HIM A REPRIEVE HAD FAILED.

THE ANCIENT FORTRESS PRISON ERECTED AT ACRE BY THE CRUSADERS WAS THE SCENE OF THE EXECUTION. SHEIKH FARHAN, WHOSE AGE HAS BEEN VARIOUSLY GIVEN FROM 55 UP TO 60, MOUNTED THE SCAFFOLD AND FACED THE HANGMAN WITHOUT FLINCHING. IN ACCORDANCE WITH MOSLEM LAW, HIS BODY REMAINED HANGING FOR AN HOUR, THEN WAS TAKEN TO A VILLAGE NEAR JENIN AND TURNED OVER TO RELATIVES FOR BURIAL.
