DR. STEPHEN S. WISE URGED HERE TODAY PRESERVATION OF DEMOCRACY AGAINST FASCISM WHILE DR. REINHOLD NIEBUHR, OF THE UNION THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY OF NEW YORK, CALLED FASCISM “THE CHARACTERISTIC CREED OF LOWER MIDDLE CLASS PEOPLE” WHOSE “PECULIAR DISEASE” WAS RACIALISM AND NATIONALISM.

THE JEWISH AND PROTESTANT LEADER, ADDRESSING MORE THAN 1,000 PERSONS AT THE OPENING OF A THREE-DAY SYMPOSIUM ENTITLED “RELIGION SPEAKS” SPONSORED BY RABBI ABBA HILLEL SILVER OF THE TEMPLE, STRESSED THE NEED OF PROTECTING DEMOCRACY.
