Governor Lehman Urges Jews to Study Their Traditions

GOVERNOR LEHMAN DECLARED LAST NIGHT AT THE SIXTEENTH ANNUAL CHANUKAH DINNER OF THE JEWISH EDUCATION ASSOCIATION THAT “A KNOWLEDGE OF THE JEWISH TRADITION WILL BRING TO THE JEWS OF TODAY A HEALTHY SENSE OF SELF-RESPECT AND INCREASED SPIRITUAL STRENGTH.”

GOVERNOR LEHMAN, ADDRESSING 800 PERSONS AT THE HOTEL ASTOR, DESCRIBED CONTEMPORARY JEWISH YOUTH AS “GROPING AND CONFUSED” AND HELD THAT THE BEST WAY TO COMBAT ANTI-SEMITISM “IS TO SHOW THAT OUR RELIGION STANDS FOR THE ETHICAL PRINCIPLES THAT MAKE FOR GOOD CITIZENSHIP.”
