TWO JEWS WERE BELIEVED KILLED AND TWO ARABS WERE SLAIN AS TERRORISM CONTINUED OVER THE WEEKEND IN VARIOUS PARTS OF PALESTINE.

SHLOMO BINNUM, 27-YEAR-OLD GHAFFIR (SPECIAL POLICEMAN) OF THE KFAR HITTIN SETTLEMENT WAS ATTACKED BY A MOUNTED BAND OF FIFTEEN ARABS THIS MORNING WHILE ON PATROL AND WAS BELIEVED SLAIN. LOOKOUT MEN OF THE SETTLEMENT SAW THE ATTACK, AND TROOPS AND POLICE RUSHED TO BINNUM’S AID, BUT THEY FOUND ONLY HIS HORSE. A SEARCH FOR THE GHAFFIR PRODUCED NO IMMEDIATE RESULTS.

A JEWISH BUS EN ROUTE TO TIBERIAS WAS FIRED UPON HEAVILY NEAR NAZARETH, AND A PASSENGER NATHAN MELLER, WAS SLIGHTLY INJURED. LAST NIGHT A BAND OF FIFTEEN ATTACKED THREE ARAB GHAFFIR GUARDING A PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT CONSTRUCTION JOB BETWEEN ACRE AND SHAFRAM, STEALING THEIR ARMS AND BURNING THEIR TENT.

TWO ARABS WERE KILLED BY TROOPS YESTERDAY DURING SEARCHES NEAR TULKAREM AND HEBRON. ARAB NEWSPAPERS REPORT BRITISH SOLDIERS HAVE OCCUPIED YAHIB, TERRORIST CENTER IN THE VICINITY OF JENIN, AND HAVE DUG IN, POSTING MACHINE GUNS, RADIO EQUIPMENT AND A SEARCHLIGHT ON A ROCKY POINT OF VANTAGE.

A COLLECTIVE FINE OF $2,500 HAS BEEN IMPOSED ON ALL BUT JEWISH AND GERMAN INHABITANTS OF THE HAIFA SECTION WHERE SHEIKH MAHMOUD EL KHATIB WAS ASSASSINATED LAST WEEK. THE AUTHORITIES IMPOSED A COLLECTIVE FINE AND A PUNITIVE POLICE POST ON THE ARAB VILLAGE OF KARKUR FOR DISORDERS IN THE VICINITY. ELEVEN ARABS AND THREE JEWISH SPECIAL POLICEMEN WERE SENTENCED TO PRISON TERMS OF THREE MONTHS EACH.

MAJOR-GENERAL ARCHIBALD P. WAVELL YESTERDAY CONFIRMED ARMY COURT SENTENCES OF AN ENTIRE GAZA FAMILY, THE HEAD OF WHICH WAS SENTENCED TO DEATH AND EIGHT OTHER MEMBERS TO LIFE TERMS. THE SENTENCE OF THE 14-YEAR-OLD BOY WAS REDUCED FROM ONE YEAR TO SIX MONTHS. THREE YEARS WERE TAKEN OFF THE SENTENCE OF ANOTHER GAZA YOUTH SENTENCED TO A FIVE-YEAR TERM LAST WEEK. GENERAL WAVELL SUSPENDED SENTENCE PASSED ON AN ARAB WOMAN OF BEERSHEBA IN CONSIDERATION OF THEIR THREE CHILDREN AND THE DISTRICT’S GOOD RECORD.
