Poland’s return to a democratic system, and to the policy of cooperating with the western democratic powers, was demanded yesterday at a series of meetings of the People’s Party, attended by about 250,000 peasants in the various rural districts. Most of the meetings were orderly, but minor clashes between the People’s Party groups and adherents of the National Democratic Party were reported from four places.
Various other moderate left groups cooperated at the meetings of the People’s Party, which is the largest in Poland. Resolutions were passed calling for return to the policies of the various moderate left leaders now in exile, dissolution of the present “corporative” Parliament and a return to a democratic electoral system.
