The Board of Deputies of British Jews today heard its president, Neville Laski, reject the “malicious calumny” that the Jews would welcome war against Germany because they resented Nazi persecution. He declared that “peace for the Jews is essential to their existence.” Mr. Laski expressed the hope that the treatment of the German Jews would not be lost sight of during any conference arranged by Britain and other democracies for the settlement of outstanding difficulties.
A report of the Joint Foreign Committee of the Board of Deputies and the Anglo-Jewish Association thanked Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain for his efforts to avoid war, pointing out that war would increase the number of refugees by millions.
