A high Government spokesman said today that the Mexican Government would not permit colonization of foreigners in the border states and “under no circumstances in the territory of Lower California.”

The statement was made in connection with published reports here that a New York group calling itself Selah, Inc., has launched a campaign with the object of establishing a Jewish state in Lower California. El Universal, influential reactionary newspaper, published a report of the plan, dated from New York and quoting the Staten Island Advance, under the caption: “Jewish Absurdities — They Want to Buy Lower California.”

The reports also drew from Press Chief A. Arroyo a statement that the Selah project thus far had not even been discussed with the Mexican Government. Arroyo said Mexico welcomed immigrants of all nationalities and faiths but could admit them “only in conformity with the regulations formally established by the immigration law.”

(The Selah, Inc., plan for a Jewish State in lower California is sponsored by the Jewish Forum, a monthly Anglo-Jewish publication, and has no connection with or support from any of the leading American Jewish organizations.)
