The Council for German Jewry issued a statement today confirming Home Office approval of establishment of a camp for transmigrant refugees on condition that the Council undertake responsibility for its maintenance. Measures have already been taken to prepare the Kitchener encampment on the Kent coast, which was used as a training place during the war. Owners of the property have put the camp at the Council’s disposal without cost. It is hoped that 3,500 young men having prospects of emigration will be transferred from Germany to the camp, their places to be filled as they re-emigrate. The camp is intended to supplement efforts to bring in refugees temporarily under individual guarantee.
The Council has passed the $3,000,000 mark in its campaign to aid the Reich Jews. The total to date is L602,000, it was announced.
