A crowded meeting devoted to the memory of Pope Pius XI and his attitude toward the Jews was addressed here by Rabbi Berman, Marcel Grigoire, director of the Catholic paper “La Cite Chretienne,” Socialist Deputy Louis Pierard, president of the Belgian PEN Club, and others. All speakers emphasized the late Pope’s opposition to racialism, stressing his statement to a group of Belgian Catholics that “spiritually we are all Semites.”
