George Backer Becomes Publisher of New York Post

George Backer, American Labor Party member of the City Council, president of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency and a leader in Jewish communal and philanthropic activities today became president and publisher of the New York Post, succeeding J. David Stern. Mr. Stern sold the controlling interest in the paper to Mr. Backer, but will continue to be a member of the board of directors. Mr. Backer is president of the American ORT Federation, vice-chairman of the Joint Distribution Committee and a director of the Palestine Economic Corporation and the Refugee Economic Corporation.
