Two Jewish refugees who were saved from drowning in the English Channel on Saturday after an attempt to cross from Ostend, Belgium, in a dinghy were deported to Ostend today when it was established that they had permits to remain in Belgium until Aug. 31. The refugees, Walter Altmann and Gunther Mann, declared they would rather have drowned than sent back to Germany. They burst into tears after hearing the deportation order.
