Departure of Dr. Alexander Dushkin and Prof. Mordecai Kaplan, American Jewish educators, who served with institutions here, has brought forth expressions of regret. It is unfortunate that Palestine is unable permanently to retain prominent American Zionist, said the English-language weekly, Palestine Review, in commenting on their departure.
The Review revealed that Dr. Dushkin, former director of Jewish education in Chicago had been nominated for the post of director of Jewish education in Palestine but, owing to party considerations alone, had not been appointed. Now Dr. Dushkin has undertaken an important educational project in New York, it was stated.
Regarding Prof. Kaplan, who headed the new Educational Department of the Hebrew University while on leave from the Jewish theological Seminary of New York, the periodical stated: “He has a real message for the Yishub and it is to be hoped that he will return at an early date. It is very likely that if there were more American Jews in Palestine, more would come.”
