A program of fund-raising to aid the Allied cause and American defense was proposed today by Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum, chairman of the Joint Boycott Council of the American Jewish Congress and Jewish Labor Committee, in a memorandum to Jewish organizations and leaders. The program follows:

“(1) A contribution of one day a week or its equivalent in earnings should be levied on every Jewish adult as his or her contribution to the Allied cause and American defense.

“(2) A huge fund should be raised immediately to enable the American Jewish community to buy and deliver 500 planes for the Allies as soon as these can be made available, as a specific contribution by American Jews to Allied victory.

“(3) One meatless day a week to be proclaimed throughout the country in order to provide funds for relief and transport of the Nazi victims from the conquered Allied provinces now in France and England, irrespective of race or religion….

“(4) The program of delivering war material to the Allies should include tanks and munitions as circumstances may permit, donation of automobiles and trucks by individual owners, equipping of ambulances and similar phases of direct assistance to the Allied war machine.”
