A rally in protest against anti-Jewish laws of the Vichy government in France was held at Carnegie Hall tonight under the auspices of the American Jewish Congress, in cooperation with the American Federation of Labor, the American Committee on Religious Rights and Minorities and the Church Peace Union.
Scheduled speakers included Senator Robert F. Wagner, City Council President Newbold Morris, Dr. Albert Simard, vice-president of “France Forever”; Dr. Stephen S. Wise, president of the Congress; Robert Watt, of the A.F.L.; Dr. John Howard Lathrop, chairman of the American Committee, and Dr. Henry A. Atkinson, secretary of the Church Peace Union.
Prior to the rally a joint statement signed by 122 leaders of American public opinion, including 66 college presidents, 30 religious leaders, 16 political spokesmen and 10 lay leaders, was made public protesting Vichy’s anti-Jewish decrees of Oct. 18 as an “injury to the honor and enduring interests of France.”
