A plea to the British Government to give the Jews of Palestine immediately the power to arm themselves was made today by Col. Josiah Wedgwood, M. P., addressing a meeting in farewell to the Palestine delegation of the Keren Hayesod, the Palestine Foundation Fund, which has been raising funds here for Palestine defense.
“If Britain had taken advantage of what had been offered to her,” Col. Wedgwood declared,” she could have at present at least two mechanized Jewish divisions. A Jewish State would have defended itself even better than the Greeks.”
He declared that Britain could still have a Home Guard in Palestine and still have conscription of Jewish men and women to serve in the factories, fields and workshops.
Col. Wedgwood, it was announced at the meeting, will soon proceed to the United States. He will be accompanied by P. Horowitz, vice president of the Zionist Federation of Great Britain.
