Stating that never has any thought of discrimination or persecution entered his mind, Generoso Pope, publisher of Il Progresso Italo-Americano in an editorial under his name published in his own newspaper emphasizes that he has “always been and will remain a decided adversary of every form of racial discrimination”.
Mr. Pope recalls in his article numerous instances when he opposed anti-Semitism, citing a number of his own articles published in 1938 in which he voiced the view that racial and religious discrimination threatened to undermine the peace and unity of the United States. “Then, as today, I made it clear that I was always against racial or religious discrimination regardless which ethnic group of the American melting pot was involved”.
Mr. Pope also points out in his article that in his various industrial concerns “persons of every national origin, not a few of them Jews,” are employed.
