Jewish leaders in Moscow issued a manifesto to Soviet Jewry calling for the redoubling of effort to defend Russia against Hitler branding him “not only the arch-enemy of the Jews but also the enemy of progress and civilization”, it was reported in the London press today.
Simultaneously the London newspapers report that the Administration of the Jewish autonomous region of Biro-Bidjan informed Moscow that all Jews in Biro-Bidjan between the ages of twenty to forty are joining the Red Army for fighting on the Soviet-Nazi front.
The press in Moscow, according to information reaching London, emphasizes with satisfaction that large number of Jews are volunteering for service in the Soviet forces. The percentage of Jewish students among the volunteers is especially high. Many volunteer also for harvesting the crop, while Jewish women are offering their services to work in munition factories and in hospitals.
The manifesto issued by Jewish leaders in Moscow urges Jews in Russia to take their places bravely in the front lines, to work vigorously in the production of weapons for the Red Army and to assist in relief work for war refugees.
