An order to immediately replace Jewish owners of firms patronized by non-Jews and also to dismiss all Jewish employees who are yet in contact with the non-Jewish public was published in the Paris press yesterday. The order was issued by the Commissariat on Jewish Affairs.
Provisional Administrators who have been appointed to supervise Jewish operated enterprises are reminded in this order that they are personally responsible for the carrying out of the ordinance promulgated by the Nazi occupational authorities, forbidding certain economic activities to Jews as well as contact between Jews and non-Jews in retail trading.
“If the replacing of Jews is impossible because of the petty scope of the business enterprise, such enterprises must be immediately closed, pending their sale to non-Jews or liquidation,” the order said. “Sanctions” are threatened against administrators who do not comply with the order at once, as well as against Jews found guilty of violating the ordinance prohibiting them from commercial intercourse with non-Jews.
