Soviet Ambassador Ivan Maisky, through whom the Histadruth has been conducting negotiations in connection with sending medical aid from Palestine to Soviet Russia, today informed the representatives of the Histadruth that the Russian authorities would be glad to accept the sterilizing apparatus which the Jewish workers in Palestine have purchased as a gift for the wounded Russian soldiers from funds collected last year among Histadruth members.
Reports received here from Palestine state that Soviet sailors are now permitted to go ashore when Russian steamers touch Palestine ports. The Jewish Agency is taking advantage of their short visits to acquaint them with Jewish achievements in Palestine. The Jews as well as the Russians among the sailors are greatly impressed with life in the Jewish colonies through which they are guided by representatives of the Jewish Agency. Few of them ever heard of Palestine as a Jewish land and they are, therefore, collecting Jewish-made souvenirs as gifts for their Jewish friends in Russia. Hitherto, no member of a Soviet crew, not even the captain, was permitted to leave his vessel when it reached a Palestine port.
