The anti-Semitic weekly De Misthoorn in Amsterdam has started a campaign urging Groningen members of the Dutch Nazi movement to tear down or decorate with a Star of David the statue of Jozef Israels in that city, it was reported here today.

Israels, one of the greatest of 19th century Netherlands painters, is considered the precursor of the expressionist school. His work, which was spoken of by Vincent van Gogh with the highest admiration, is represented in most important public and private collections. He was born in Groningen, of Jewish ancestry, in 1824. He died in 1911.
