The Paris radio today reported that 4,000 Jews, seized in unoccupied France, were deported during the week-end to unknown destinations for forced labor. The same broadcast claimed that “40,000 Jews with their families have already been deported by the French Government in Vichy to East European territories.”
Boasting of the cooperation which the Gestapo is receiving from the Vichy Government in rounding up Jews for deportation, the Nazi-operated Paris radio stated that the Vichy authorities are “pitiless” with Jews who try to cross from German-occupied France into the unoccupied zone. These Jews, when apprehended upon their reaching the unoccupied territory, are thrown into camps for deportation to the East, the broadcast said.
The “Rassemblement Populaire,” pro-Nazi organization of Jacques Doriot, has opened negotiations with other French groups for the formation of a single anti-Semitic, totalitarian party, the Nazi-controlled Paris radio also announced. The party would “continuously fight against Jewry,” according to the broadcast.
