The arrival of American troops in Palestine and Syria to reinforce the British garrisons there was reported here today. The Jewish population in Palestine gave the Americans a rousing welcome. It is assumed that the American military units will be stationed for a time in the vicinity of Haifa and Jerusalem.

The news of American armed forces landing in Palestine coincided with publication of the news that Hitler demanded that Britain surrender Palestine and Syria to Germany. This demand was made as part of the “peace proposal” which Rudolph Hess carried to England when he landed there in May, 1941, Sir Patrick Dollan, former mayor of Glasgow, revealed in the London press today.
