His resentment at the presence in this country of Otto von Hapsburg, pretender to the Austro-Hungarian throne, was expressed here by Congressmen Emanuel Celler addressing a dinner of the Jewish Council for Russian War Relief. A check for $100,000 as a gift of the American Jews to the Russian War Relief was presented at the dinner by the Council.

“The very name Hapsburg must be anathema to the democratic loyal Austrians, Hungarians, Czechs and Yugoslavs here in our midst as well as in Europe.” Congressman Celler said. “Beyond question this man Otto and his crew would like the restoration of the Hapsburgs to power. His being cow-towed to by certain influential Americans is a damnable outrage and an insult to the faithful and patriotic Czechs and Slavs within our midst. The propaganda inspired by this man and his ilk is the very antithesis of Democracy – the very antithesis of the four freedoms. By encouraging Otto we are laying the basis for civil war in Central Europe.
