The prejudice of the Palestine Government against the Jews of Palestine was sharply indicated here today when an Arab of Hebron who was found in possession of a British rifle of the most recent make and 86 rounds of ammunition was sentenced by a civil court, while Jews charged with similar offenses are brought before military tribunals.
The Arab was sentenced to six months imprisonment, while a sentence of seven years imprisonment was imposed only yesterday by a military court upon Dr. Weizmann’s former body guard, Elihau Sacharov, who was charged with possessing two bullets, one of which was defective.
When sentencing the Arab, the British magistrate expressed surprise that the case had not been brought before a military court. The handling of this case is aggravating resentment among Palestine Jews, especially since Leib Sirkin and Abraham Rachlin, two Jews, were sentenced last week to ten and seven years imprisonment, respectively, despite the fact that no ammunition was found on them to substantiate the government’s charges of gun running.
