Secretary of State Cordell Hull, addressing a historic joint sessions of both Houses of Congress today, indicated that the Moscow tripartite conference definitely kept in mind the fact that “Hitler has reserved for the Jews his most brutal wrath.” He told Congress that “sure punishment will be administered for all these crimes.”
His statement, interrupted by vigorous applause, came as an obvious reply to the criticism leveled in some quarters against the fact that the Moscow conference failed to speak out specifically on crimes committed by Hitler against the Jews. Secretary Hull said:
“The Conference also served as an occasion for a solemn declaration by the heads of the three Governments with regard to the perpetrators of the bestial and abominable crimes committed by the Nazi leaders against the harassed and persecuted inhabitants of occupied territories – against people of all races and religions, among whom Hitler has reserved for the Jews his most brutal wrath. Sure punishment will be administered for all these crimes.”
