18,116 Members of B’nai B’rith Affiliates Serving in U.S. Armed Forces

There are 18,116 members of B’nai B’rith and its three youth affiliates, the Aleph Zadik Aleph, Hillel Foundations and B’nai B’rith Girls, serving in the nation’s armed forces, and of these 120 have been killed in action or in line of duty or are missing in action, Henry Monsky, president of B’nai B’rith, announced today in making public a statistical report of B’nai B’rith’s war service record two years after Pearl Harbor.

The report also showed that B’nai B’rith groups had equipped 606 recreation facilities for the armed forces at Army and Navy installations in 38 states, in addition to 34 in Canada; 79 Naval vessels being served with recreational and musical equipment and reading material; 46,000 blood donors provided for the Red Cross; $172,000,000 in war bonds sold; 171 Torah Scrolls obtained for use in Jewish religious services at Army chapels, with 97 already dedicated; and 48,000 members serving in voluntary civilian defense jobs.
