More than 300,000 Jews, – forty percent of Hungary’s Jewish population – have been sent to concentration camps since the German Army occupied that country, the German radio boasted in a broadcast today.

The Budapest radio announced today that at least 10,000 Jewish establishments will be liquidated in Hungary within the next two weeks under the decree issued last week by the Nazi-controlled Hungarian Government. The broadcast estimated that there are at present 30,000 Jewish firms in all Hungary.

Transkontinent Press, a Nazi news agency, today reported that the Jews in Budapest have been deprived of their sugar and fat ration cards, and have been ordered to surrender to the authorities all fats that they may produce themselves.

The Stockholm newspaper, Morgon Tidningen reports today that the well-known Hungarian Jewish industrialist Ferenc Chorin has been arrested by the Gestapo in a Benedictine monastery to which he had fled for shelter. Mass-arrests of Jews in Hungary are assuming such proportions that Jews are leaving their homes and seeking refuge in remote villages in the dwellings of peasants who are showing great sympathy for the refugees.
