Hias Re-elects Abraham Herman President; Hears Report on Relocation of Jews in Europe

Abraham Herman, communal leader, was re-elected president of the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society, HIAS, at a meeting of the Board of Directors held at the Society’s headquarters, it was announced here today. Samel A. Telsay, Solomon Dingel, Joseph Pulvermacher and Samuel Goldstein were elected vice-presidents. Harry Fischel, who has served as treasurer for half a century, was re-elected to that office. Isaac L. Asofsky, executive director, was elected secretary.

The newly elected Board of Directors heard a report from Mr. Asofsky on the society’s plans to assist in the relocation of a million displaced Jews in Europe. HIAS, which has offices and affiliated committees all over the globe, he said, is opening new offices and setting up new committees in liberated Europe immediately in the wake of the Allied Armies.
