Dr. Stephen S. Wise, president of the American Jewish Congress, and Walter White, secretary of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, today sent a joint appeal to Governor Thomas E. Dewey urging him to endorse publicly the Falk-Andrews Bill, which would outlaw restrictive covenants on real estate.
Governor Dewey was also asked by nine organizations to support the Austin-Mahoney Bill outlawing racial and religious discrimination in educational institutions, so that the bill may be enacted into law in the current session of the State Legislature.” The nine groups who signed the appeal to the Governor are: The New York State A.F. of L., the New York State CIO, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the United Parents Association, the Jewish War Veterans, the Anti-Defamation League, the National Urban League, the Committee of Catholics for Human Rights and the American Jewish Congress.
