Informed political circles here said today that the military and civil authorities in Palestine have been given wide powers to prevent further disturbances, including the power to impose restrictions on meetings and free speech and to make wide-scale searches without warrants.

The Cabinet is also understood to be considering introduction of the death penalty for complicity in the preparation or carrying out of “murder plots” or possession of the means of perpetrating such deeds.
