Twelve thousand Jews from Poland arrived here in the first seven days of August, according to Joseph Silver, Cleveland attorney, who heads JDC operations here.
Arriving from Bratislava, after having crossed Czechoslovakia with the government’s help, the refugees are fed and housed here for a few days and them move on to DP camps in western Austria.
Most of them go to camps in the American zone, although some find temporary shelter in the British zone. All tell the now familiar story of violent anti-Semitism in Poland which make it impossible to continue living there.
