Hebrew Union College yesterday announced the establishment of the Adolph S. Ochs memorial chair in Jewish history. The Ochs chair, honoring the former publisher of the New York Times, will be occupied by Dr. Jacob R. Marcus, professor of Jewish history at the seminary.

Speaking at the ceremony on the subject of a Jewish program, Dr. Julian Morgenstern, president of Hebrew Union, declared: “Probably very soon Palestinian Jewry’s policies and destinies will be determined in Palestine itself, not by committees, conferences or congresses sitting in New York, London or Paris.

“That blessed day,” he went on, “will or should mark the end of our Jewish bickering and party strife and disunity, at least upon the issue of Jewish nationalism here in America. That will enable our American Jewish community to concentrate upon its own problems, duties and destiny.”
