Dr. Nahum Goldmann, on behalf of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, expressed its “heartfelt thanks and deep satisfaction” to President Truman for his reply to King Ibn Saud of Saudi Arabia.
In a letter of October 30, released today by the Agency, Dr. Goldmann wrote the President that “in the tragic situation in which large numbers of the Jewish people find themselves, your attitude which is full of understanding sympathy with our cause, constitutes a ray of hope and a source of deep comfort to the suffering members of Jewish communities throughout the world.
“We are convinced,” he said, “that with your help our just cause will finally win and we will be able to overcome all the obstacles in opening Palestine to the hundreds of thousands of Jews who have no other place to go and to establish there a self-governing Jewish community which will give the Jewish people the status of equality among all the peoples of the world.”
