Mrs. Helen Friedman, sister of Dov Gruner, today called on Loy Henderson, chief of the Near East Division of the State Department, to ask him to intervene in her brother’s behalf.

When she emerged from the interview she said that Henderson had promised that the State Department would do everything it can in behalf of Gruner, but that since he was not an American citizen it appeared that there was little that could be done. Mrs. Friedman will carry her appeal to Lord Inverchapel, British Ambassador to the U.S., tomorrow.

A cable, urging commutation of Gruner’s death sentence, has been sent to Sir Alan Cunningham by the American League for a Free Palestine.
