The activities of the Joint Distribution Committee were lauded by Rumanian Premier Peter Groza this week-end. Receiving Dr. Joseph Schwartz, the JDC’s European director, Groza said that “by dispensing help to starving Jews and non-Jews alike the JDC provides a strong argument against anti-Semitism, which has recently increased owing to the hunger which has befallen Rumania.”

Groza particularly praised the JDC’s credit co-operatives and vocational training schools which, he said, helped restore the normal economic structure of the Jewish communities. Dr. Schwartz also discussed the current situation of the Rumanian Jews and their relief needs with other members of the Rumanian Cabinet.
