“We cannot hope to commend brotherhood abroad unless we practice it at home,” President Truman declared here commenting on the observance of Brotherhood Week which began throughout the country today.
The President, who has been designated honorary chairman of Brotherhood Week, added that he advocated brotherhood “as the rule of life among all our citizens of every religion, race or national origin.” He made his comments during an interview with Dr. Everett R. Clinchy, president of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, and former Ambassador John Winant, general chairman of Brotherhood Week.
Dr. Clinchy announced that the National Conference, which sponsors the observance of Brotherhood Week, would seek $2,000,000 during 1947 to be used for research and education in group relations.
