Irgun Broadcast Answers Truman Request to U.S. Not to Interfere in Palestine Affairs

The Irgun tonight replied to President Truman’s request to Americans to refrain from interfering in Palestinian affairs by declaring that “we do not need encouragement” from abroad.

In a broadcast on the “Voice of Fighting Zion” underground radio, the extremists asserted that their strength was to be found in the “soil of our homeland.” The announcer chided the President, pointing out that he had several times asked that the British permit 100,000 Jews to enter Palestine but had received no reply.

The trial of five Jews charged with participating in the Acre prison break May 4 ?ew to a close today with only two witnesses to be heard tomorrow. Meanwhile, a dispatch from Damascus reports that a Jew alleged to be a Sternist who escaped from Acre has been apprehended by the Syrian police.
