Jews in a number of cities in Italy today protested against the deportation from Palestine of 4,500 visaless immigrants who are being returned to their port of embarkation in France.

In Bari the police dispersed 2,000 Jews who were demonstrating outside the British consulate. In Milan and Turin police banned further demonstrations and extra guards were detailed to the local consular offices.

Reports from Turin said that several thousand Jewish refugees living in Italian DP camps have been on a hunger strike since yesterday to protest the deportations.
