Congressman Asks Truman to Extend Protection of American Flag to Exodus Refugees

President Truman was today urged on the floor ##f Congress to extend the protection of the American flag to the 4,500 Exodus refugees.

Citing the 1924 Anglo-American accord on Palestine, Rep. John A. Blatnick, ##emocrat of Minnesota, asserted that the U.S. Government has a legal as well as a ##oral responsibility for the welfare of the immigrants. He termed the seizure of the blockade runner by a British naval patrol “piracy.”He also urged passage of a joint resolution introduced last week asking Secretary of State George C. Marshall to request the British Government to restore civil liberty in Palestine.
