American Jewish Committee Asks Bevin to Admit Refugees to Palestine

The American Jewish Committee today cabled an appeal to British Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin urging him to admit to Palestine the 4,500 Jewish refugees from the “Exodus 1947.” The Committee also addressed a telegram to President Truman asking the United States Government “to use its good offices.”

The American Council for Judaism voiced its appreciation today to the government of France for offering a haven to the 4,500 refugees and expressed the hope that “your government’s beneficent offer will be an example for other of the United Nations.” The sentiments of the Council were transmitted to the French Government is a telegram to the French ambassador to the United States.
