Maj. Gen. William Bishop, deputy chief of staff of the British Control Commission for Germany, said today that “lethal weapons” will be used if British lives are endangered during the disembarkation of the Exodus refugees, but every effort will be made not to use arms and to exert a minimum of force.

He told a press conference here that the transports will probably not arrive before the end of next week, and that newsmen would be informed in advance.
