Hebrew Committee of National Liberation Attacks Report of U.N. Committee

The Hebrew Committee for National Liberation, in a statement issued tonight, opposed the report of the U.N. Committee. Samuel Berlin, secretary-general of the group, said that the report was objectionable for the following reasons:

“1. It limits in principle the rights of all Hebrews in exile to be repatriated to their national territory. 2. Further partitioning of Palestine will make full repatriation of all Hebrews in exile practically and economically unfeasible. 3. The new partition plan, as its predecessors, will prove unworkable when faced with economic, social and political factors involved. 4. Jerusalem, from time memorial, was and will remain forever, the center and capital of the Hebrew Nation, though we are wholeheartedly for the internationalization of the holy places proper. 5. There is an inconsistency between granting statehood to the Hebrews on one hand and the assertion that ‘any solution for Palestine cannot be considered as a solution of the Jewish problem in general’ on the other.”
